Bio

Jennie Lau is an interdisciplinary visual artist based in Toronto. Her art work consists of painting, collage, time-based media and installation. The media of her paintings include acrylic, oil, watercolor, ink and digital. She has participated in local solo exhibition, as well as local and international group art shows / online group exhibitions. Some of her work has been covered by the local and international media. Jennie’s art journey and goals are to learn and explore new techniques and subjects of painting, explore how her work would contribute to the local community and a broader boundary. She holds a BFA degree with Distinction in the Drawing & Painting program from OCAD University.

Current Exhibitions

Jennie is currently participating in the following exhibitions:

Narratives Through Digital Space curated by Julius Manapul. Jennie's work Through the Isolated Eyes showcases a series of her digital work created during the quarantine period, which brings her personal connection with nature, urbanization and environment. and creates a new digital space.  https://adobe.ly/2ZPZYzz

Through the Isolated Eyes has been selected to participate in the Creative Resilience Resilient Creativity  Exhibition at Chancellor Jaime Watt’s Gallery, First Canadian Place, downtown Toronto, from Jun 9 to Jun 24, 2022, 9am - 9pm. https://www.ocadu.ca/creative-resilience

The Essentialists curated by Penelope Smart. Jennie's work Neo-Bamboo Forest connects the popular dining tool disposable bamboo chopsticks to the Anthropocene.  https://ocad.libguides.com/the_essentialists

Projects

Jennie has been working on two major projects recently. One project belongs to a series of abstract paintings where she is experimenting different ways of representing the nature, landscape, architecture, and human interactions and transforming them into her unique visual language. Another is related to collage / installation in which she explores the different relationships among form, shape, space, architecture, people and social interaction.
